Brothers and Sisters in Community Service
Our Mission
We are Brothers And Sisters In Community Service, or BASICS. Our objective is to set up immersion experiences for volunteers and to provide support for the poor and under-served communities including, but not limited to, providing meals and food, building and maintaining facilities that serve the poor and building and maintaining shelters for the poor. Programs to support the poor and under-served may include education and training or support for such activities.
Service
We aim to serve the poorest and most vulnerable members of communities in San Jose and in Tijuana, Mexico through services that provide meals, housing, and shower services.
Justice
Through participation in local events and actions, we advocate for policy change that helps alleviate the issues of poverty and homelessness.
Immersion
Immersion experiences allow you the chance to experience a situation, location, or community by embedding yourself in its culture rather than simply viewing it from a comfortable distance.
Education
We provide opportunities to learn the stories of individuals affected by poverty, immigration, and homelessness, locally and internationally.
